The American Heart Association's Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED course is a comprehensive training program designed to provide individuals with the knowledge and skills necessary to respond to common first aid emergencies, perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and use an automated external defibrillator (AED) effectively. Course Objectives:

  1. First Aid Fundamentals: Learn essential first aid skills for responding to medical emergencies, including assessment and emergency action principles, bleeding control, wound care, choking management, and recognition and management of common medical emergencies.

  2. Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR): Master basic CPR techniques for adults, children, and infants, including chest compressions, rescue breaths, and the proper compression-to-ventilation ratio, as well as the integration of AED use into CPR protocols.

  3. Automated External Defibrillator (AED) Operation: Understand how to operate an automated external defibrillator (AED) safely and effectively, including pad placement, device operation, rhythm analysis, and delivering a shock when indicated during a cardiac arrest.

  4. Choking Emergencies: Develop proficiency in recognizing and responding to choking emergencies in adults, children, and infants, including the appropriate techniques for performing abdominal thrusts (Heimlich maneuver) and chest thrusts.

  5. Hands-On Practice: Engage in practical, hands-on skills practice sessions using manikins, first aid supplies, and AED training devices to reinforce first aid, CPR, and AED techniques and build confidence in responding to real-life emergencies.

  6. Team Dynamics: Learn effective teamwork and communication skills for coordinating first aid and CPR efforts in group settings, including assigning roles and responsibilities, providing clear instructions, and supporting other rescuers during emergency situations.

  7. Written Examination: Complete a written examination to assess knowledge retention and understanding of first aid, CPR, and AED concepts covered in the course.
